As musicians, we’re so good at listening to others, to our instruments, to sounds around us, but how good are you at listening to physical yourself? To your body?
Any movement lessons require a level of listening that allows you to move, but not strain.
This is especially important when we’re thinking about learning. When we push and pull, we’re more likely to cause pain, strain, or add excess tension where it’s not needed. When learning, we could better teach ourselves to value efficiency instead: how much effort do you really need for this? How easily could you do this? How fluidly could you move.
When we achieve this in a Feldenkrais lesson, then we can start to recognise its value off the floor too.
