Movement in every moment

The other day, I saw some of my favourite Heifetz pictures. They’re photos taken with a light at the end of his bow. And you can see the sheer amount of different movements he makes to move the bow in different patterns. And I assume, different pieces. Sadly he had passed away, so I never got to see him in person, but my Dad went to see him in concert in London, in his youth.

Movement plays a part in every moment of life, whether we’re aware of it or not. Life without movement is unthinkable. The ability to discern between different qualities, trajectories of movement is learning. If we can’t differentiate between left and right, we can’t write, or draw much. We can’t follow directions, or understand how we move ourself in space.

So when we learn to improve our movement, we’re also improving the quality of our lives.
