This week I’ve been at a live segment of Childspace, a child development course, closely related to Feldenkrais. I was quite quiet for a lot of it, as I lost my voice on the first day, but it was a fascinating experience.
One of the important things we’ve been learning about is this transition from lying on the back, rolling (a period of some months), and moving towards crawling via creeping. Creeping is when you crawl, but with the belly touching. We spent part of the week pulling the movement apart and putting it back together. Culminating in creeping races at the very end, which I lost in style!
The amount of movement we create through the whole body in these stages is huge. Each one giving the baby (or in my case adult) a variety of experiences of how to push into the floor to sense different parts of ourselves.
You’ll be surprised at how finding these movements that push through the spine have an effect on the shoulders and hip joints!
