Easier getting up from Sitting

The nervous system is the unconscious conductor of thought around the body. Sending and receiving signals from the ends of the toes and fingers through the whole physical landscape back to your brain.

What’s different about Feldenkrais than other methods is that we use this connection to our advantage. Rewiring, rethinking, redrawing the physical map of ourselves in our brain. Through movement. It’s a universal language.

The levels of tension reflect the state of your nervous system. Often we try to improve our body without thinking about this connection.

But for longer term improvement we need to include it, and shift your thinking and understanding to think of your whole self. body, mind, emotions, thoughts and all!

If you stay in the same emotional/stressful conditions, with the same kind of thinking, your physical self will repeat the same kind of patterns. Which is why we often have muscle tension and pains that keep coming back no matter how much you do the physio exercises/stretch or have massages.

Your body, mind, nervous system are interconnected after all. To shift longer term problems, we have to change our thinking around problems to include and work with your whole self.

The weekly lessons this month are focussing in on this functional ability: how to use bio-mechanics and ergonomic weight shift to get up from sitting, more easily.

Even if that’s not something you’re concerned about, you’ll find these lessons really useful. You’ll get better connection to your legs, and more ability to think holistically and bio-mechanically in the way that you move.
