In the modern age, many of us spend long periods in sitting. Sitting still isn’t very healthy for you. And as you age, getting up from sitting can become more challenging. But many of you don’t use the natural biomechanics that you do have available, in an ergonomic way to do this well. Toddlers do this before they have muscle power, so it’s not all about the muscles!

Take those of you that lean on the chair behind to get up. The weight shift needs to go from your sit-bones to your feet, to move you from sitting to standing. If you’re leaning behind, you’re keeping weight exactly where it shouldn’t be. But I see so many people doing this, and wondering why getting up is getting harder.
The weekly lessons this month are focussing in on this functional ability:
how to use bio-mechanics and ergonomic weight shift to get up from sitting, more easily.
